Bureaucratic Control System
In this assignment I will be discussing the discrepancy from the Sandwich Blitz scenario that I watched. I will also be discussing how the issue could have been avoided, how the Bureaucratic Control System could be applied, and the steps with the system. There was an issue with the supervisor allowing an employee to report time that wasnt worked in that specific pay period. By having a control system in place will mitigate many discrepancies that could possibly occur because there would be protocol and disciplinary actions. The bureaucratic Control system is designed to measure progress toward set performance goals and to apply corrective measures. This is essential in running any business. How can you run a business without structure? With this system there are rules and standards that needs to be followed. This is where the four steps of the control system come into play. Setting performance standards is the first step in the control system. These standards clarify what is to be expected from staff. In the case of Sandwich Blitz, Dalman and Lei had no standards put in place so the employees didnt know what was expected of them. This enabled the supervisor to allow a staff member to report hours that were not yet earned. Measuring performance is the second step in the control process. Its basically developing methods to collect and organize what is going on within the company. This is definitely a step that needs to be taken with Dalman and Lei. They need to have a sit down and see what is going on with their payroll. See how much damage that had been done thus far. I would suggest that their middle management report submit lower level staff time on a weekly basis so it can be accounted for accordingly. Comparing performance with the standard, in my words is evaluating the standards that were put in place. This step was actually taken in Sandwich Blitz because this is how Lei identified the discrepancy with the unpaid time. By evaluating employees performance there could be an evaluation for preset standards. Applying this process, Dalman and Lei can see what works for their business and what dont work for them. The last and fourth step is talking action to correct problems and reinforce successes. The in-text meaning of this is to ensure that operations are adjusted to achieve the planned results or to continue exceeding the plain if the manager determines that is possible. (BatmanSnell, 2009 P297) In other words its stating that once the standards are set and we take corrective action to ensure that the methods and standards are corresponding. In summary, following the bureaucratic control system is needed to regulate. Rules and regulations must be put in place to evade unnecessary issues A business needs a formalized structure such as bureaucracy. Standards are the top of the list for me because once that is in place the blue print of operation is in order. Along with follow up and righting wrong, everything else is smooth sailing.

Great Power Diplomacy in the Twentieth Century Essay
Great Power Diplomacy in the Twentieth Century - Essay Example Globalization in the twentieth century fueled the development of favorable environmental conditions which inevitably led to the expansion of international trade of goods and manpower services. On the other hand, the geopolitical polices of the twentieth century allowed the establishment of national and imperial control over the process of globalization. Therefore, globalization coupled with effective geopolitical policies shaped the great power diplomacy of the twentieth century. The development of great power diplomacy in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century was limited to European countries. The reason for this limitation was due to the centralization of power in Europe. The European countries were and still are in many ways the great powers of the world which promoted the permeation of diplomacy throughout the world. The Second half of the century that followed the Second World War can be legitimately regarded as the great era of balance of power diplomacy in the twentieth century. The balance of diplomacy was essential in order to reduce the increasingly apocalyptic implications another war could have on the stability of the world. Great Britain wanted to take advantage of this time and play an instrumental role in brokering the exact location where the balance of power would lay. However, British dream was threatened from the very beginning due to the rise of two super powers i.e. The United States of America and The Soviet Union. Moreover, Britain did not posses the natural affinity with growing economy and the need for political closeness between previous enemies, which was simply essential for the development of balance of power. 3 I felt the need to briefly discuss the balance of power because it is critically related to diplomacy and it can be safely stated that the mothers of Great Power Diplomacy of the twentieth century were the need for globalization, geopolitical policies, and balance of power. I would now throw light over the real meaning of the word diplomacy. Diplomacy can have different meanings in different countries around the world because the dimensions of the word are determined and influenced by political policies of a country. In general, the meaning of diplomacy is a tool for the promotion and implementation of foreign policies of a country. The most important institute in modern society is, indeed, diplomacy. The process of Diplomacy comprises numerous underlying steps including gathering information, clarifying intentions, and engendering good will. All such processes require stability and peace within a nation. The essence of diplomacy is peace and stability within a society. Therefore, one of the numerous obstacles faced by the great power diplomacy in the nineteenth century had been the political and economical instability of the world. Thus, i n the twentieth century, it became necessary for the great powers to establish peace in order to diffuse the growing tension within the European countries. The diffusion of anger and tension was necessary to eliminate the prospect of another war. I believe that the single most important event which significantly changed the Great Power Diplomacy in the twentieth century were the Locarno Treaties of 1925. The treaties promoted the development of

Weekend in Guatemala Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Weekend in Guatemala - Essay Example Diego express his pessimism by asking Tucuche if the land reforms are of ill intent (Asturias 201). Secondly, the author helps readers understand La Gallaââ¬â¢s mentality through the expressions she gives when she hears the Indian drums. La Galla expresses condescending facts regarding the Indians and the drums they play because of the land reforms. La Gallaââ¬â¢s mentality is best understood when the author describes how his father died because of a demonstration, which was carried out by the Indians. La Galla disagrees with the idea of land reforms, which has been instigated by the Great Brotherhood. Further, La Galla does not see any sense regarding the drums played by the Indians; she sees it as only noise (Asturias 200). Branding the land reformists as communists was the best cover up, which La Galla and the white settlers could use to attack the Indians. If La Galla and her group could label the Indians as communist, the Indians could be seen as extremists with ill intentions. The idea of communism was contrary to what La Galla and whites believed in, which was capitalism. The state and communal ownership of land was the point of attack against Indians (Asturias

Psychology Project - Essay Example There have been many studies done in order to determine these. The first article was entitled ââ¬Å"Further Refining the Stress-Coping Model of Alcohol Awarenessâ⬠. In this article, it was shown that coping measures as far as alcohol consumption and stress differ in regards to the type of stress that is encountered. It was hypothesized based on previous experimentation that men are more likely to encounter heavy drinking as a coping mechanism than females due to their limited coping abilities. There have also been inconsistencies in trying to diagnose whether specific people are more prone to this kind of coping measure than others. The first deals with the variability, which is experienced across the board when people deal with stress. This being that coping measures are not just maladaptive or adaptive, but each are tailored to deal with a certain type of stressor. The second is that there has not been substantial evidence and consistency in showing that gender factors play a role in coping and drinking. The experimental design for this study was a short-term design, which was based on self-reporting measures. In particular, three variables were hypothesized that could take into account for gender differences. The first is coping using the support of others. It has been shown that students that are experiencing a stressor in regards to a relationship or social situation are less likely to turn to alcohol if their coping mechanisms are more guided towards the support of others. In particular, it has been shown in women that experience an interpersonal stressor that they are less likely to drink as a coping measure due to greater social support seeking. The second hypothesis shows that the more in control of the external stressors that a person is experiencing, the less likely they are to turn to alcohol as a coping measure. The third hypothesis is based on previous research which states that men are more likely to use active seeking coping strategies and women are more likely to seek social supporting strategies for coping. Thus the use of alcohol was found to be higher in males than in females. The population had a sample size of 83 participants from different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. These participants were tested using many different types of surveys and testing batteries. They were prescreened with the Michigan Alcohol Screening Tests and the College Studentsââ¬â¢ Recent Life Experiences test. These stressful factors were then broken down into four core areas: life management, social relationships, school, and general social adjustment. Then, they returned for three weeks and were asked how many times they engaged in heavy drinking, which was defined as five or more alcoholic drinks. The final survey that had to take was the COPE to assess their skills in active coping, avoidant coping, and social support seeking coping. The statistics were analyzed using mixed modeling interactions and this took into account correlation coefficients and t-test values. Men that had higher scores in active coping and social support seeking coping were less likely to engage in dangerous activities involving alcohol. If men using avoidant coping measures, they were more likely to engage in the use of alcohol. For women, the same statistical data was also recorded. There is some validity to the measures that were

Company Assessment Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words - 1
Company Assessment - Research Paper Example China, which is Nike's largest single sourcing country, employs more than 210,000 people and has over 180 manufacturers. The supply chain management was affected by the issues of unpaid wages, presentation of falsified documents, and underage employees. (Global Supply Chain Council, 2008) Nike tried to make sure that its code of conduct was followed by the Chinese manufacturers, in addition to Chinese laws. The official report released by Nike stated that labor-related issues such as hiring practices, inadequate grievance system for workers, falsified payroll records, and underage workers, were of great concern. (Global Supply Chain Council, 2008) When an identity check was carried out on 150,000 of Nike's workers in China, it was found that 167 employees were underage at the tie of recruitment and two of them were still underage. Paid wages were also not as per the raises mandated by the government. Moreover, the report stated that some of Nike's Chinese contract factories were playing tricks so they don't have to alter the wage levels. (Global Supply Chain Council, 2008) Nike is building a logistics centre in eastern China, which is to complete by the end of next year. This facility, like that in Jiangsu province, will be using high-tech conveyers and sorters for tracking and mobility of its products.Radio frequency technology will also be used to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Nike China is working hard to develop a state-of-the-art logistics facility and exhibit its expertise in supply chain management. It's also working to resolve labor issues, which leave a bad impact on company's reputation. Employing underage workers is the violation of international human rights and working laws. Moreover, many countries, such as USA are very particular about not doing trade of items that involve underage labor. This does not only harm company's prestige but also its revenues. (Gabe Perna, 2009 and Portland Business Journal, 2009) Recently, a Greenpeace report named "Slaughtering the Amazon" had identified different shoe companies that were held responsible for deforestation in the Amazon. Nike was one of them. Last month Nike announced its new leather policy of no sourcing from Amazon rainforest. It conducted extensive discussion with the suppliers and claimed that it is going to make sure that leather used in Nike products is not coming from Amazon rainforests. However, as there is no standard tracing systems a yet, the company cannot give a 100% guarantee. (Global Supply Chain Council, 2009) Nike has called its suppliers to develop a tracking system that would make sure that the leather used does not come from cattle raised in Amazon Biome. Suppliers are to come up with a transparent and traceable tracking system by July 1 next year. Incase suppliers fail to do so; Nike will extend the area outside of Amazon as its leather source. Suppliers are also required to become members of Leather Working Group by the end of this year. Nike is working with this group to create an industry standard traceability system. Satera Assignment - Term Paper Example Pinto should also consider the abilities and sources of motivation for both of senior engineers. During crucial confrontation, problem should be calmly described by Pinto and feedback of both persons should be taken. Pinto should adopt an honest and straightforward approach whilst presenting his ideas. He should make Lovas and Bennett to realize that designing an innovative imaging support structure is a shared purpose of organization. If Lovas and Bennett have complaints against each other they should have facts to support their claims. Once both parties discuss complaints, Pinto should then highlight the consequences of their conflicts on organization, their personal lives and on other colleagues. Based on the personality attributes of Lovas and Bennett in Table 1, Pinto should motivate and encourage their role in the company. Management portfolio - Research Paper Example Microsoft is a leader in their field, and the role of Sr. QBE Program Manager would provide me the opportunity to see the rewards of my hard work. A section of Microsoftââ¬â¢s value statement is: ââ¬Å"We take on big challenges, and pride ourselves on seeing them through. We hold ourselves accountable to our customers, shareholders, partners, and employees by honoring our commitments, providing results, and striving for the highest quality.â⬠(Values, 2010). This focus on constant improvement is one reason why I would enjoy the Program Manager role. Linkedin.com (2010) mentions that the individual in that role will drive continuous improvement through Microsoft processes worldwide (LinkedIn, 2010). In addition, the Program manager will use best practices techniques in leading and mentoring others on the team in their projects (LinkedIn, 2010). Being able to lead and teach others techniques that I mastered through time and effort would be a rewarding experience. The type of positive environment at Microsoft can be seen from their formal global diversity and inclusion strategy for the future (A Vision and Strategy for the Future, 2010). Three hubs of the strategy are: (1) representation; (2) inclusion; and (3) innovation. The part that I found in particular appealing was the inclusion strategy. In this, the company wants to engage their employees in meaningful careers and encourage employees to focus on social networking, cultural awareness, community service, heritage celebrations, and career development (A Vision and Strategy for the Future, 2010). The company appears to realize the importance of each of these items for employee development and wishes to assist the community and their employees. Cynthia Solomon was a previous Microsoft employee and mentioned that the Sr. Program Manager is responsible for project oversight from the start until it is implemented (Jimenez, 2002). In
