ABSTRACT The Automated Business Service System (ABSS) was designed for the military to process documents without wasting an enormous amount of time. The original way of processing a document involved typing the document up and visiting each person to sign off on it. Not only was this time consuming but there was no historical record available if the original document was lost or destroyed. ABSS uses an Oracle database and has changed the way finance processes documents forever. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Before I worked as the systems administrator for finance I was the budget analyst. I started using the Automated Business Service System (ABSS) over eight years ago and I think it is one of the best programs the Air Force has adopted. ABSS was written by a private company and has been implemented over multiple branches of the service. When the program first came on board at my base in Germany I was appointed as the functional administrator to maintain the program. I was in charge of maintaining all user accounts and assisting the resource advisors on base with building their flows. I also had to process documents for my program through ABSS. I had to quickly learn how to use this program as well as learn how the Oracle database stored all this pertinent data. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Before the system was put online I was trained for a few days on how to start building the database and getting the system ready for implementation. I would not responsible for maintaining the actual database. We had a remote database administrator that had the capability to access the database and ensure there were no problems. The actual server was in my office but I had no access to log into it. I could log into the program from any system and make changes to the database that way. The actual integrity of the database was not part of my duties. I had to start building all the accounts for each user within the database. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã There was a lot of work to be accomplished before the database went live. Every person who needed to approve a document would have an account as well as a step in the process. A user would draft and submit a document. Each users account also had there electronic mailing address linked to it. This would allow the system to generate an e-mail and the next person in line to approve the document would be able to log into the system and take the appropriate action.

Human Memory Model Essay
What is the Human Memory Model? Do you know where your thoughts and memories go? We are going to look at the three different memory types. What makes them up and how they function. Developing short and long term memories is something that is a long term project. We do not fill our cerebral cortex with all the knowledge and memories overnight. In this paper we are going to look at the human memory model. What makes us process thoughts into memories, process things we see, hear, feel, taste and smell into memories. We are going to look at short term memory, long term memory and sensory memory types. These different types of memory models make up the structural and functional model of memory. First we look at sensory memory this is like the safety deposit box of the memory bank. Sensory memory is the processing of brief sensations that occur through the five senses. They are briefly stored in your short term memory bank. If you enter a room that has a not so pleasant smell your brain is processing this in your short term memory. You may remember the room itself, but not necessarily the smell. Sensory memory only sticks around while the stimulus is also around. Certain instances can help recall the memories like an emotional memory, the stronger the emotion, the stronger the memory. Short term memory is also referred to as working memory, the combination of transient sensory memory and extensive long term memory. New material comes in and mashes with the old information, and is managed as a working process. Not all short term thoughts get put into our long term memory vault. Some methods of retaining information are called chunking. We process letters, numbers and thoughts by grouping into chunks of seven. Phone numbers are a good example of this, two groups of three digits and one group of four digits. Maybe this is why phone numbers are formatted this way, so we can remember so many different sets of phone numbers. If you make a call one time, you may not remember that number ever again. But placing this call multiple times will store the digits in your long term memory bank. (Editorial Board, 2011 p. g. 124) With this we move right into long term memory, long term memory is something we need to work at day after day. If you are trying to study for a test, it is best to study a little bit at a time every day, cramming is not recommended. You are not supplying your brain enough repetition to store information in your long term memory bank. This method of learning has been proven over time in many ways. Episodic memories are something you experience or an event in your life. Semantic memories are items of memory that you learned at some point in your life. Items that are told to you or you read about. Learning with your semantic memory still requires repetition for it to be stored in your long term memory bank. You must listen to someone speak and understand what they are saying before you will remember it. You cannot simply just stare at them and hear what they are saying. Your undivided attention is required. Explicit and Implicit memories are described as bringing information forward for recall. Implicit memory is brought forward automatically without intentional conscious recall. Whereas, explicit memories are brought forth through conscious recall. You use explicit memories to remember family and friends birthdays or mundane information that you learned in grade school. You need to recall this information to bring it back to the surface; where implicit memories are the ones that we never forget like riding a bike or driving a car. Retrospective memory is items of information that have already been presented and stored in the long term memory bank. Prospective memory is future information such as a grocery store list without writing the needed items down. Without making the list, you could walk into the grocery store and ask yourself, ââ¬Å"why am I hereâ⬠? But with retrospective memory you could recall that your kids ran out of milk at breakfast and not everyone could have cereal. So now you remember that your list included milk. Prospective emory may spark your memory for other items that you need to get. Encoding is the initial process of recording and identifying information. Three types of codes help to make memories acoustic, visual and semantic. Acoustic code is sound, some sounds recall memories. The sound of the ocean might give you a joyful memory of your childhood. There are also sounds that might bring up bad memories, like a gun shot. When thinking of a gunshot you recall a traumatic experience where two law enforcement officers are trying to apprehend a suspect. When you arrive they are all three wrestling on the ground. Now that the law enforcement officers are fighting and shouting at the suspect, you have to try to remember who is saying what and who pulls their gun out first. Then the gunshot happens and suddenly your mind goes blank. When other officers arrive you are expected to recall what has just happened and make a statement. However, the situation was so traumatizing that you only remember two details of the scene. Visual memories are much the same, as when you see the space where this event took place you are remembering the details of the event some years later. Semantic memories understand the relationship between signifiers such as words, phrases, signs and symbols. This is what you would learn while attending school and living in mainstream America. You brain stores all of this information like a flash drive, when you want to restore this information you simply full the file and remember. (LeMee & Shaw, 1997) (Editorial Board, 2011 p. g. 121) Now where do you think all of these memories go? They must all be stored somewhere right? Of course, the information is stored in the limbric system, which includes the hippocampus and the amygdala. The hippocampus is responsible for transferring the short term memory into long term memories. The amygdala is responsible for linking emotions and memories. The hippocampus acts as the neurological message system, passing along information from long term storage in the cerebral cortex. Different parts of the hippocampus are thought to be involved in different activities, such as consolidation of spatial memories. The amygdala provides a means of retrieval by pairing emotions in an event with the memory of the event. The hippocampus and amygdala are very important functions in the brain they are certainly not the only functions. (Editorial Board, 2011 p. g. 119) The brain is a very complex organ. It is the most important organ besides the heart in the human body. Without the brain, your quality of life would be awful. Brain injuries are all too common where a hit to the head in just the right place can take away all your short term memory. This could leave you with the ability to not retain any new memories. You should always protect your brain, especially the cerebral cortex which stores all your memories.

Theories actually seen in practiceFeedback that can be given to the company/hotel/restaurant I. Introduction I decided to have my on the job training at Link Network Solution Inc. at 5700 Pagulayan St. Poblacion, Makati City. Itââ¬â¢s a little bit far from Cubao but I have no choice because I really have a hard time searching for a company where I can have my on the job training with. Good thing my classmate has a connections on one of the head of that company and luckily, me together with my two other classmate happened to start out our on the job training there. The Link Network Solution Inc. is the fourth company that we had applied. We first sub mitted our resume to POEA, SSS East Ave and PLDT Mandaluyong, but none of those companies had entertained our application maybe because they already have their chosen applicant or it may either be because we applied late. I started my on the job training on Jan 2013. It is from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm from Monday to Friday. II. PERSONAL ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING FROM THE COMPANY A. Cognitive or Intellectual Learningà Iââ¬â¢ve learned a lot from the job given to me. I know how to setup a printer, troubleshoot, and deliver an item to a customer. I learned the daily routine inside the office. I also earned how to make a receipt when we deliver some items for our customer. Sometimes I voluntarily deliver when no one is available to do it. I learned every supply or item that we delivered it always have a receipt. I know how to go in different places riding jeeps and other transportation. B. Affective or Emotional Learningà Ià learned how to love my job and all the staffs. I learned to a ppreciate the work given to me. I was so dedicated that I do all my best to give correct service but sometimes there were errors. I also experience that the manager get a little bit mad at us when we are absent. For the staffs, they were so kind and friendly and I never experience ââ¬Å"out-of-placeâ⬠there. They treated us like a family. I remembered what the manager said to us, ââ¬Å"If we are in work, we work. If we are on outside, weââ¬â¢re friends. â⬠à à I always put that in mind andà I became closer to my manager, supervisors and staffs. C. Psychomotor or Physical Learningà I noticed a lot of improvement on me. I became flexible. I also noticed that I became faster in moving. III. RECOMMENDATIONS a. For myself ââ¬â I must recommend to me that I must omit my tardiness because coming early is really important in the job.I must be ready for all the work that they will give to me because I accept being an on the job applicant from their company. b. For OJ T Companyà ââ¬â I recommend that they place OJT students nearer on the branch where they live, in order to avoid hassle in travelling. Also in scheduling of time. They must give students earlier schedules in order to go home early especially for those who travel from far places. c. For OJT Programà I recommend that they must put OJT programs at the earlier years in order to expose students at an early time and to learn the concepts and hands-on training in our industry. They should treat each on the job applicant equally. IV. AREAS TO IMPROVE A. About Selfà I think I must improve my time management. Sometimes I came late especially on Friday because I must report in school B. For the OJT Companyà I think they must improve the scheduling of time of their OJT students in order to go home early especially for those who travel from far places. C. For the OJT Programà I think they must improve the OJT program because I felt that we were late on having OJT. We have co-OJT stu dents in other schools and they were only 2ndà year and yet they were having an OJT.Benefits gained Problems encountered We are an On the Job Training in a company that focuses on printers so these are the problems that I encountered during our time there. A. Paper Jam If a Kyocera printer has been properly maintained, most paper jam problems are directly related to the paper that is being used. Although this is never the answer anyone wants to hear, it is the most overlooked component and the simplest to remedy. If persistent jamming is the problem, the first test would be to remove all of the paper in the printer and replace it with paper from a new ream, or of a different manufacturer.Check the label on the new package of paper to verify the paper meets Kyocera's specifications. Grain structure is very important. Short grain paper will cause frequent jams. Always use long grain paper. Most paper is manufactured to have a top side and a bottom side. This has something to do with grain structure and the natural curl of paper. Try flipping the supply of paper over. This will test the ââ¬Å"curlâ⬠in case the paper was put into the printer upside-down. If all of these methods do not alleviate the problem, the problem is probably mechanical.Refer to the remaining questions on paper jamming. First check the paper and shuffle it properly. Second if the paper is stock inside the printer. Easily open the printer tray and remove the specific paper that is jammed. B. Blurred Letters Check if there still a toner, remove the drum and shake it and you will know if itââ¬â¢s empty or not. Check also at the report from the printer and print the status page. C. Poor print quality Check the drum if itââ¬â¢s dirty or thereââ¬â¢s something in there. If the drum is dirty clean it. Check also the printersââ¬â¢ charger; if itââ¬â¢s dirty clean it. D.Thereââ¬â¢s a line on the text Check first the drum of the printer; it its dirty clean it. Check the Fuser Kit if it does have a scratch or have a defect you must change it. E. Empty Toner The toner is empty. The toner needs to be change. F. Invalid Cartridge The programmed chipset is done. G. Routine Maintenance The Charger in the printer needs to be change. The benefits that I gained from our company. We gained so many benefits as an on the job training in Link Network Solutions Inc. We know how to setup and troubleshoot a high-end printer. A. Meaning of life â⬠Anthropology Essay
The Meaning of Life and Cultural Relativism ââ¬âWhat is the meaning of life? ââ¬âââ¬Å"Whatââ¬â¢s the meaning of life? â⬠is today a question generally meant as a joke. This apparently wasnââ¬â¢t true in the past. Religious teachers, from Jesus to Buddha to Mohammed, offered a clear meaning of life. Philosophers from Plato to Augustine to Voltaire to Nietzsche to William James also offered such a meaning, although in progressively less certain ways. ââ¬âToday, however, philosophers have mostly turned away from questions of the meaning of life (or when they discuss it, they may proclaim lifeââ¬â¢s meaninglessness, as does Nagel in this weekââ¬â¢s reading). A big reason for this is that there are so many different beliefs in the world today: they relativize all beliefs, and make certainty problematic. ââ¬âA key principle of anthropology is ââ¬Å"cultural relativismâ⬠: this has become a central principle in todayââ¬â¢s world at large. How can you know that your sense of ââ¬Å"the meaning of lifeâ⬠is truer than someone elseââ¬â¢s sense of ââ¬Å"the meaning of lifeâ⬠? This is why it may be difficult to be both a Christian and an anthropologist. And this is why this course cannot offer much advice as to ââ¬Å"the meaning of life. â⬠Meanings of Life in Anthropology ââ¬âAnthropologists thus canââ¬â¢t discuss ââ¬Å"the meaning of lifeâ⬠; but they can analyze peopleââ¬â¢s personal meanings of life, as a way of better understanding how people are culturally and socially shaped. There is a fundamental difference between ââ¬Å"the meaning of lifeâ⬠and ââ¬Å"meanings of life,â⬠and only the latter can be fully explored by anthropologists. ââ¬âAnthropologists explore culture: the ways of thinking by which people live. Anthropologists study a range of different culturally-shaped fields, from economics to politics to religion to gender in different societies. However, few anthropologists have directly studied ââ¬Å"meanings of lifeâ⬠(maybe none, except for me! ) This is because in most societies that anthropologists study, there is no ordinary word that people use to describe whatââ¬â¢s most important to them in their lives. ââ¬âHowever, the Japanese language has such a term: ikigai. Ikigai means ââ¬Å"that which makes your life worth living,â⬠or, more practically speaking, ââ¬Å"whatââ¬â¢s most important to you in your life. â⬠Common ikigai are work, family, religious belief, creative endeavor, or personal dream. 1 ââ¬âWhy does only Japanese have the term ikigai? Why donââ¬â¢t other languages have ikigai? In any case, even if other languages donââ¬â¢t have the term ikigai, people everywhere can understand what ikigai means. It is ââ¬Å"whatââ¬â¢s most important to you in life,â⬠ââ¬Å"what makes your life worth living. â⬠ââ¬âWhat is your ikigai? This is difficult for students, because you havenââ¬â¢t yet made the life choices of work and family that you probably will make over the next few years. But you can get some idea: Is it pleasing your parents? Finding a boyfriend/girlfriend? Gaining knowledge? Getting good grades and a good future job? Helping the world become better? Pursuing creativity? Being close to God? The Sociocultural Analysis of Ikigai . ââ¬âMost Japanese books about ikigai talk about it in a psychological sense: how individuals seek and find and lose ikigai. However, ikigai is also social: all ikigai involve us in the world of other people: whether you live for family, for your personal dream, for God, or for alcohol, all of these are social. ââ¬âIkigai in this sense I define as ââ¬Å"that which most deeply links the self to the social worldâ⬠: ikigai is what ties you to the world around you. This can take two broad forms: ikigai as self-realization, and ikigai as commitment to oneââ¬â¢s group: both are fundamentally social. ââ¬âHere is a one-sentence cross-cultural theory of ikigai: ââ¬Å"On the basis of culturally and personally-shaped fate, individuals strategically formulate and interpret their ikigai from an array of cultural conceptions, negotiate these ikigai within their circles of immediate others, and pursue their ikigai as channeled by their societyââ¬â¢s institutional structures so as to attain and maintain a sense of the personal significance of their lives. â⬠We have ikigai because ikigai gives us a sense of the purpose and significance and worth of our lives; but we necessarily hold these ikigai within the context of the society around us, with which we constantly interact in forming and maintaining ikigai.

Product and Branding Strategies (Starbucks) Essay
Product and Branding Strategies (Starbucks) - Essay Example 2009) It is because of its high quality that the brand charges a high premium for its products. There are several other product attributes, other than the price and quality that contribute towards the image of the products offered under the brand name of ââ¬Å"Starbucksâ⬠. Product Positioning Map Other product attributes of Starbucks coffee include taste, richness, features, design, style, innovation and customer service. These together combine to support the brand image. But for the product positioning map, there are two primary attributes that have been focused upon. The first attribute is the innovation and the second attribute is the customer service. Innovation is necessary for the positioning of the product because customer needs and wants change with time and the only way to meet the changing demand is through innovation. Customer service is also a primary aspect of positioning because it always adds value to the customersââ¬â¢ coffee experience at Starbucks. If innov ation is not present, then the brand might fail to serve its target market in the long run. It cannot come up with new products and cannot create demand of its new products which simply means that it will fail to make use of the opportunities available. Customer service on the other hand is a very important attribute that can help retaining the customers and attracting prospective. Consumers always want to go for the products that provide with the customer service. Starbucks incorporates both these primary attributes into its products. Starbucks specializes in gourmet coffee and there are several competitors that have entered the market of specialized coffee. These competitors include McDonaldââ¬â¢s and Dunkin Donuts. The reason for choosing these competitors is that they do not charge as high a premium as does Starbucks though the product category is same. Starbucks heavily invests in its customer service because it believes that loyal customers are the backbone of its success a nd it is the most effective way of acquiring more loyal customers. For the attribute of innovation, Starbucks has made its own Research and Development team (R&D). The type and level of investment that Starbucks make in its R&D team is notable. It gives a lead to the brand but this gives a direction to the competitors as well because they can wait to imitate the products. Innovation at Starbucks and also the customer service are high. At McDonaldââ¬â¢s customer service is high but innovation of the coffee product is low. Dunkin Donuts is low on both the attributes. It is low on the innovation attribute and also the customer service attribute. Following is the product positioning map of Starbucks with respect to its competitors. Customer Service High Starbucks McDonaldââ¬â¢s Innovation Low High Dunkin Donuts Low Starbucks is present in the upper right corner of the product positioning map which means that it is both high in innovation and customer service. Similarly McDonaldâ⠬â¢s is present in the upper left corner meaning that it is high in customer service but low in the attribute of innovation. And finally the Dunkin Donuts which is present in the lower left corner of the map, meaning that the coffee brand is both low on innovation and customer service. Brand Strategy in relation to the Target Market Starbucksââ¬â¢ target audience mainly comprises of the upscale coffee drinkers. Starbucks has a very well defined target audience. It has a target market in each age segment
